Xiaomi-backed Huami, that recently made its India debut, launched a new smartwatch called the Amazfit Verge and a new fitness brand called the Amazfit Health Band 1S in China on Monday. At the same time, the Xiaomi subsidiary also took the wraps off of its in-house chipset for wearables that it is calling the Huangshan No.1. Wearable devices powered by the chipset will be launched sometime in the first half of 2019.The Amazfit Verge is the company’s new smarwatch, that follows in the heels of Huami devices like the Amazfit Pace. The Amazfit Pace was recently launched in India at a price of Rs 9,999. The Amazfit Verge has been launched in China at a price of RMB 799 which roughly translates to Rs 8,431.For the price, you get a smartwatch built out of reinforced plastic and consisting of a removable silicone strap. The Amazfit Verge features a 1.3-inch circular AMOLED display with a 360 x 360 pixel resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The smartwatch is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 512MB RAM and 4GB internal storage. It runs Android-based Amazfit OS, and packs Xiaomi’s Xiao voice assistant as well as the support to control as many as 11 smart devices through the company’s Mijia app.The Amazfit Verge comes with a high precision optical sensor that is claimed to offer up to 98 per cent accuracy and up to 80 per cent reduced power consumption over competing products. The watch can monitor heart rate and can also detect abnormal heart rate patterns. There’s GPS on-board that can apparently track up to 11 sports activities including running, walking, and mountaineering.advertisementAlthough the Amazfit Verge is IP68-certified, it is not swim-proof. There’s NFC for payments and 13 watch faces for a customised look and feel. Other connectivity options include: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, GPS and GLONASS. The 390mAh battery inside the Amazfit Verge is claimed to offer up to 5-days of battery life on single charge on normal usage.Xiaomi’s Huami also launched the Amazfit Health Band 1S on Monday which is the successor to the Health Band. The Amazfit Health Band 1S supports 24×7 monitoring and is priced at RMB 699 which roughly translates to Rs 7,376.
