United manager Jose Mourinho has used his press conferences during pre-season training as a way to apply pressure to chief executive Ed Woodward in an attempt to bring in more players. So far Fred, Lee Grant and Diogo Dalot are the only new recruits. And speaking as part of his role as a BT Sport analyst, Ferdinand said: “There seems to be a lot of negativity around United at the moment, and that doesn’t bode well,” adding that the manager’s comments about not bringing in the players he wants or moaning about a lack of first team players available during pre-season training will be tough to hear for the youngsters trying to make a mark on the team.“In the meantime, Manchester City look stronger than ever and Liverpool have improved again,” Ferdinand continued.“They have brought in a £60million goalkeeper, I think Naby Keita will make a great impact, we know of Xherdan Shaqiri’s quality, and they have added Fabinho to the mix as well. 2 Alisson is football’s most expensive goalkeeper 2 Rio Ferdinand has a bad feeling about Liverpool this season. Horrendous, in fact.Having added Fabinho (£40m), Xherdan Shaqiri (£13m), Naby Keita (£45m) and Alisson (£67m) to their squad for the new season, the former Manchester United defender thinks the club’s rivals will finish above them. Keita has arrived from RB Leipzig “I’m a United fan, and I want to see them win the title, but I fear it’s going to be very difficult for that to happen this season.“I can’t see past City and Liverpool as the top two — and to say that about the two clubs who wouldn’t be top of any United fan’s Christmas card list is horrendous.”With a day to go before the transfer window shuts, United are expected to bring in another defender and have so far been linked with Leicester’s Harry Maguire and Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld.
